Fast Car

I didn’t tune into the Grammy’s this year. Odd, I know. But, to be honest I was too busy making music to watch an award show.

However, I saw snippets of Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs the next day on social media. I am a huge Tracy Chapman fan. I’ve been listening to her music since I was a kid.

Tracy Chapman has not done a public performance in 15 years. 15 years! That’s a long time to not play any public shows, which made it even more special. Everyone started losing their minds during the performance. You can hear people cheering throughout the entire song. Tracy gets overwhelmed and smiles more than once. It was magical.

The whole time I’m watching the performance I’m thinking “this is what good music feels like.” So much of modern music is shallow, heartless and devoid of real emotion. When Tracy sang Fast Car, you could feel the emotion in the room. It was an incredible moment.

This is what I remember about the Grammys. I remember feeling inspired by raw artistry. It was wonderful to see.

Fast Car is a song with no frills, no excess. It’s pure song, a simple guitar melody and a lyrical journey that breaks your heart. Tracy reminded us all of how powerful a song can be. You don’t need mega-production. You need a good song, and an emotional performance. Don’t just entertain me. Make me feel

Moments like this inspire me. When I get goosebumps, I feel alive and awoken. If you didn’t catch the performance I’ve included it below. I hope it fills you with good vibes and inspiration for your next creative release.

Until then, play on Tracy… play on…
