About the Song
Years ago I used to frequent a coffee shop. Why? Was their coffee good? Yes it wasn’t bad. But the real reason I went there every day was because there was a cute girl who worked there. Each day I would go to chat with her and see if I could muster up the courage to ask her on a date. At that time, I was very shy and didn’t know really how to talk to girls I liked.
She was nice enough, and always greeted me with a smile. But nothing ever materialized, because I didn’t have the guts to ask her out.
But me being a songwriter and dreamer, I put my pen to paper and imagined an entire story between us. I imagined how she wrote her phone number on my coffee cup one day, on how we would fall in love over the summer, and then how we would ultimately fall apart as seasons changed.
For shy, introverted songwriters, I guess it’s easier to write a song about a fictionalized love rather than actually taking the risk of asking a girl out haha! Such as life! Eventually I moved away and never saw that coffee shop girl ever again. But the song remained.
“In Time” is a story about two characters who meet at a coffee shop and fall quickly in love over the summer. But as summer turns to fall their romance fades as well. It’s a song about the changing of seasons and the bittersweet sting of young summer love.
